    SKDB. Societal Engineering Knowledge Database

    http://heybryan.org/mediawiki/index.php/Skdb

"So, skdb is "apt-get but for hardware"- the idea is to be able to say

    "skdb-get install milling-machine", or "skdb-make robot-maid", and
then get all of the requisite tools either by getting instructions
(computational representations of instructables), or by "opting out"
of the tree and just buying some OEM or proprietary components at a
certain point-- which I only mention because it's common that people
just want a kit, or don't want to have to forge every metal component
that they require to carry out their herculean feats." - Bryan Bishop

    Tangible Bit

    http://tangiblebit.com/

"I've been working on a system called "tangible bit" (www.tangiblebit.com) that's essentially a networked resource map. It ostensibly maps resources (think: plywood, transistors, bicycles, milk.. ) and manufacturing processes/capabilities (think: CNC mill, pick'n'place, welding rig, butter churner) in a geodata setting with both resources and capabilities tied into "sites". The idea is that if you have enough resources mapped and enough processes mapped you can start to do some fancy sparse matrix inversion in order to find the shortest path to any given product constrained on a number of variables such as cost, distance materials must travel, environmental impact, etc." - Smári McCarthy

    DeepQA

    http://www.research.ibm.com/deepqa/deepqa.shtml

"A computer system that can directly and precisely answer natural language questions over an open and broad range of knowledge has been envisioned by scientists and writers since the advent of computers themselves. Consider, for example, the "Computer" in Star Trek. Taken to its ultimate form, broad and accurate open-domain question answering may well represent a crowning achievement for the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI)."

    Canonizer.

    http://canonizer.com/topic.asp/10

Canonizer.com is a Wikipedia type collaborative information system with some added structure to handle point of view (POV) information. Each canonizer “topic” has an “agreement statement” that is much like a wikipedia article. In addition to this there can be additional subordinate “position statements” representing the position of various “camps” or POV on that topic. POV statements can be organized in a structure. For example in a topic like God a “Christian” position statement may exist under a monotheist statement which may exist under a theist statement. Supporting a lower camp like such a “Christian” camp implies support of all higher level position statements including the agreement statement.
